Global warming has been proselytized, demonized and marketed… -ized. Facts and figures are created by scientists, government institutions and “go green” companies.
And there’s the other side, the side that says, “It’s all a lie. There’s no such thing as global warming!”
Outside of all the global warming marketing, there’s a reason why everyone should care about the environment. Three reasons, and we all learned this in elementary school environmental science classes.
Humans pollute the land.
It’s true. We throw away plastics and all sorts of things that are pretty nasty. It all goes somewhere once it leaves your trash bin. Most people tend to forget about it, but space and dealing with the rubbage is still an issue.
And while we know, understand and attempt to utilize recycling facilities, only 35% of US folks recycle. And most of that is paper products, which is more biodegradable than the other stuff that’s tossed but still useful.
The fact that we’ll probably run out of space for garbage isn’t bad enough for some folks, so let’s talk about water…
Humans pollute the water.
Have you ever glimpsed at the Hudson? ’nuff said there, but still. Can you believe it’s only the 33rd most polluted river in the United States? Aren’t we proud?
We’re getting pretty good about cleaning up water, but we’ve got a ways to go. You know, with the run off from garbage, chemicals dumped outside, etc.
Not only that, but the bad water goes to the fish, which sometimes feeds birds, who sometimes poops on grass, which cows eat, and we eat the cows… Oh that circle of life. How amusing.
But there’s something even better…
Humans pollute the air.
Ok, get this, companies build factories and then pump out lots of chemicals and stuff into the air. It turns into rain, and thus acid rain. Not hard science, right? What goes up…
In the United States, you don’t often hear about acid rain. We’ve been pretty good about it ever since the 80′s when there was that law that was passed to companies to try to knock out the stuff that causes acid rain and other air pollution issues. It’s still a problem in Europe and Russia and other countries though.
But now companies are going to be able to buy and sell how much they can pollute the air. Interesting, isn’t it?
Humans are pretty smart. We make all this stuff, but we toss it away. I’m not perfect either, I still throw things away in the garbage that could be recycled. However, companies and government folks going back and forth about “Global Warming” and whether it is real or not is a lame excuse to use up your tax dollars. Outside of the global warming idea, how about cleaning up an act just because of regular land, water and air pollution? Since when did Global Warming have anything to do with just trying to not hurting ourselves through our own waste?
How about going green on the fact that a.) after an initial investment, it’ll be cheap on everyone for years and years, b.) we’re worse than pigs when it comes to our trash and waste, or c.) I don’t particularly like acid rain.
So maybe we can go back to the facts that we know are there, and stop playing around with the global idea, basing our efforts on if it might be real or not.
And did I mention I don’t particularly like acid rain?
