So my pans were dirty. I wanted tatertots. You can’t cook tatertots in the microwave.
You just can’t.
I just know.
Because I’ve tried. That’s how.
But did I want to wash a pan to cook tatertots in? Nope. Takes too long to heat the water, wash the pan and dry it. I’ve got a life, after all!
So I tried plan B. Which was to take tin foil (where I grew up, we called it tin foil, and yes, I know it’s made of aluminum) in a single sheet, place tatertots on the sheet, carefully move to the heated oven and sit it on the rack. When done, remove with pot holders to a plate.
Except when you hit the top of the oven with your arm. And then out of reaction you slam your wrist into the bottom of the oven.
Yeah. It hurt. Yeah. It was hot.
I’m not feeling a real burn yet. It’s more my wrist aches a bit from hitting the oven so hard. It got me thinking about burns though, so I looked it up.
Things I Didn’t Know About Treating Burns (For idiots who burn themselves)
- Don’t use ice. Ever. Frostbite on top of a burn… not pretty.
- Keep an aloe plant. My mom used to have one. Old reliable. Never had to buy aloe from the store.
- The time to go to the hospital: Blisters underneath a blister, infection or black skin/hurts like doomsday.

Hahahahaha, this it too funny! Well, not really funny, but you know what I mean right? My poor wife burns herself all of the time. Then she wonders why I jump as she tries to hand me something hot. She has burned me on a number of occasions! (thank God for spell check)
I posted an article about her in my “stupid is, stupid does” category where she tries to hard boil an egg in the microwave… what a sticky, errr, juicy situation that was.

Kudos to you for going with Plan B, even though the cause and effect of it wasn’t quite what you were expecting. I have done that before, hit the top of the oven with my arm and than in reaction slam my wrist into the bottom of the oven. It wasn’t a pretty sight, and just like you it hurt quite a fair bit, but burnt my arm in the process. It is interesting how these situations make us look into things in a new light, as we get to discover many things we wouldn’t have known before.
Sounds like something I would do. I’m the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to home-type things, even though I’m getting better.
Oh and I’m a man, so I hate going to the doctor’s unless I absolutely have to (i,e, mainly for certificates to get me out of work)
I have burned myself quite a lot in my time. Twice with burning oil, once holding a hot pot (dropped it, of course…) and lots more. I like cold water, then aloe. Sometimes the burn ointment they have at doctor’s offices and/or hospitals DO help, as bandaging does too. I hope you are better now!
I couldn’t help laughing. That so sounds like something I’d do! (and I’ve done the tater tots on foil trick when I didn’t feel like washing dishes too….and fries on foil
). For burns, do run cool (not cold) water on it and if it blisters, trust me do NOT pop it. It feels like getting burned all over again…yep…I just know…
Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
I learn something new every day. I would have assumed you use ice on a burn! I at least hope your tater tots were yummy.
Putting your burn under running cold water helps too. It even calms some of the “smarting” so the burn doesn’t hurt as much.
I’m always burning myself when baking because I never think to grab a fork and pull out the rack so I don’t have to reach in the oven.
LOL. Thats a funny post. Sometimes it happens though. Alow juice really helps with burns btw. Luck!
